With the increasing financial support from the government for the energy-saving and emission reduction industry, many business people have joined the energy-saving industry upon hearing the news. Among them, some businessmen use the concept of energy conservation to create business opportunities through conceptual confusion. For example, a power saving device launched by a certain manufacturer claims to be connected in series in lighting circuits, which can save more than 10% of electricity. In fact, this is a reactor that saves electricity by reducing lighting power and illuminance, which is a fake energy-saving device.

Only wasted electricity can be saved

We analyze whether a device can save electricity by adhering to a principle - only wasted electricity can be saved. If a manufacturer can explain the core principles of an energy-saving product in a scientific way, its authenticity can be considered. If this problem cannot be clearly explained, it cannot be considered as an energy-saving device.

For example, the widely recognized method for saving electricity in electric motors is frequency conversion technology. If variable frequency speed regulation is not used, the adjustment of fluid flow is through valve regulation, and the loss on the valve obviously causes a lot of waste. If the flow is adjusted by reducing the speed of the fan and water pump, the loss on the valve can be eliminated, thereby achieving energy-saving effect. One of the confusing questions for everyone is whether harmonic control can save electricity?

Let's analyze based on the core criteria given above.

What waste is caused by harmonic currents? The waste of electrical energy caused by harmonic currents is mainly caused by the loss of the line, including the loss of the transformer. This part of the loss is reflected in the electricity meter as active power. If this loss is reduced, the reading of the electricity meter can be reduced, thereby achieving the effect of saving electricity bills.

Therefore, we can conclude that harmonic control can reduce the loss of the line, thereby saving some electricity bills. But the prerequisite is to reduce the harmonic current on the line in order to achieve the goal of reducing line losses and saving electricity bills. Therefore, harmonic filters must be installed at the harmonic source. If the user only installs a filter at the lower end of the transformer, it will not have the effect of saving electricity.

The following figure shows two methods for harmonic control. The method of (a) cannot save electricity, while the method of (b) can have a certain energy-saving effect.
